Candace: A story of perseverance
What brought you to Fanshawe?
As a mature student, I got to a point in my life where if I wanted to pursue my career, I had to attend school. I chose Fanshawe College because I heard that it offered an amazing Social Services Worker program. I was introduced to my program by my support worker as an outlet to overcome the challenges and obstacles I have faced in my life living with a disability.
Tell us about your favourite Fanshawe experience.
My favourite Fanshawe experience was representing the CIT (Community Integration Through Co-operative Education) program at the Fall Open House, as it gave me a better understanding of the different programs offered at the school, as well as the culture here at Fanshawe. I was also able to speak with potential students and their parents about various programming here at the College. I was highly impressed with how knowledgeable my colleagues and even the potential students were about Fanshawe College.
What impact has Fanshawe had on your life?
I have a learning disability that has previously held me back, but after attending Fanshawe College, I have learned to overcome many obstacles, such as: I am now able to manage my time more effectively, my communication skills have improved drastically, I am now more open-minded towards members of the community, I love volunteering and assisting others who are in need. I really appreciate the opportunity to grow, learn, and succeed.
