Craig: A story of unusual
What brought you to Fanshawe?
My family had been in the bar business for 30 years. Due to strong government regulations, my father decided to sell our profitable business. I decided on the Fanshawe Personal Support Worker (PSW) program because:
- there is a demand for PSW's,
- its a 1 year program,
- the price is excellent, and
- the St. Thomas Campus is about five minutes from my house.
Most importantly, I couldn't think of a more noble career to embark on.
Tell us about your favourite Fanshawe experience.
For what it cost, I gained lab experience and very thorough field placement, resulting in a straight up job opportunity; that I ultimately turned down because I'd already been hired. At the St.Thomas Campus the classes were very small, compared to my first college experience, which gives more opportunity for questions and understanding.
What impact has Fanshawe had on your life?
I learned the core elements necessary to walk into an interview and get a job. This program enabled me to earn money to provide for my family. Right now I am just waiting on my second book to be finished (by create space, editing, formatting). If I hadn't taken this program, I never would have been able to write this story (main theme: end of life care/death with dignity).
