Davinya: A story of an island girl
Stepping off the beautiful shores of The Bahamas, I made my first journey of a thousand miles. The past 2 years have been such a great learning experience for me. Studying at Fanshawe and being away from home, has taught me how to be independent and to be optimistic about the future. The team at Fanshawe helped nurture and master my culinary skills to what it is today. The dishes that I can create with my two hands and bare ingredients are unbelievable. Despite the hard times of being homesick, I pushed pass all adversaries and was awarded The Mercer Cutlery Award 2017, for the highest combined grade in my practical labs. I can now say that I am a proud graduate and alumni of Fanshawe College and the Culinary Management program.
What brought you to Fanshawe?
I came to Fanshawe because I wanted to travel beyond the Caribbean seas to expand my culinary knowledge.
Tell us about your favourite Fanshawe experience.
My favorite Fanshawe experience was our program's Chef's Table Night. We had to design 4 different dishes and serve them to our Chef Judges.
What impact has Fanshawe had on your life?
Being able to learn and interact with many cultures and people of those cultures has open my eyes to so many opportunities. It has taught me open to trying new things.
