Emily: A story of identity

For most of my life, I was absolutely amazed by everything that life had to offer. I viewed anyone and everyone as beautiful and unique individuals, especially my elders. This caused me to be quite shy, as I felt that I had not discovered my identity. I always thought that it would take me a very long time to develop my identity to become as special as the people I met everyday.

I still remember and will never forget, when my Grade 10 Biology teacher said that I had the personality, but not the brains to go far with school. However, it was when I started at Fanshawe that I was able to flourish in a new city and start fresh.

I was determined to prove to that teacher, and myself that I was more than what meets the eye.

For 3 years at Fanshawe, I kept myself motivated and disciplined myself to stay on track so that I could become my own best self. I ended up receiving the highest GPA in my Nursing (BScN) class first year; and second year, I obtained the excellence in Nursing placement award. I had never felt so happy in my life to be recognized for my own true self. Without Fanshawe, I wouldn't have discovered my potential and self-worth.
