Julie: A story of helping others

I grew up with my mother and two of my aunts as Registered Nurses, all of them having graduated from Fanshawe College over 27 years ago. I have always been drawn to the medical field, especially nursing. Life, however, can sometimes steer you in different directions and so it is now, after leaving a seven year long career in customer service that I am returning to that original inspiration.

Over the past eight years of my life, and four years of marriage, I have seen what it means to care for others in real ways. My desire to become a Registered Nurse was solidified after experiencing a personal tragedy. In 2012, my husband and I lost two children through miscarriage. Through this incredibly difficult experience and time of grief, it was not the doctors but the the nurses that really made a difference and helped me through that challenging time. That experience, along with the kindness and support that my Grandfather receives daily while in permanent care, continue to inspire me to become a nurse today. These nurses inspire me to make a real difference in the lives of others, one person at a time. I cannot wait to see what the next four years will bring, and am so excited to be starting this new journey in my life as a student at Fanshawe College.
