Kelly: A story of resilience
At the mere age of 20, I was given news that I had a mass growing in my breast. In that moment my life changed. Having that tumor made me realize that life is too short to live in fear.
I decided to follow my dream of working on a cruise ship. Many thought this would have been amazing. "WOW! You get paid to travel the world!" But they didn’t see the other side of it. The part where I had no windows and a bathroom small enough to do three things at once. My moods were like a roller coaster, so I decided to come home. I wasn't able to find stable work for a couple of years until 2013. My luck was beginning to change.
I found a job working with adults who have developmental disabilities. This was a whole new learning curve for me as many of their needs were highly medical. I found my true love of nursing. The skills that I get to learn and the people I get to meet every day, there's nothing like it. After all these years of trying to figure out what I'm supposed to do, I found it. The Practical Nursing program has already taught me so much and I am so excited to continue on and be the best nurse I can possibly be.
