Lea Nelson Couture: A story of fashion
My story begins in 1984. What was appealing to me was the fact the Fanshawe offered a co-op program that not only had in class education but on the job experience. I had no experience with drafting, no understanding of fabric and limited sewing skills. I was, however, determined and loved creating beautiful clothing. At the end of 2nd year I began a partnership with a fellow classmate, Tammy King. We called our business Nelson and King Skinovations. Leather was popular at the time and our outfits drew attention. A couple of years later we parted ways to pursue our own careers. At this time I started under my own label Lea Nelson. Around this time I also had the opportunity to teach Clothing Construction at Fanshawe, for a couple of semesters. This was a wonderful opportunity and I was flattered by it. I began producing clothing and had hired many students on co-op over the next many years, dabbling in wholesale and retail and custom clothing design. When l became pregnant in 1997 with the 1st of 3 sons, I decided to offer my service out of home studio so that I could raise them. I now have an intimate Boudoir Studio in Grand Bend and am looking forward to working with clients to create to gown of their dreams.
