Luis: A story of potential

My family left my native country of Guatemala when I was a toddler in search of a better life. The pursuit led us to move from Los Angeles to Toronto and eventually to London. Adapting to a smaller city’s lifestyle was definitely a challenge that had me searching for the right path, one that would not only provide me with the ability to reach my ultimate potential, but also reward my family for sacrificing their lives for my future.

In the midst of this journey, I realized that business was the career choice for me. I enrolled in the General Business program at Fanshawe, was introduced to marketing and loved it.

Two years later I found myself in the Search Engine Marketing course and competing in the 2014 Google Online Marketing Challenge, spearheaded by professor Liz Gray. Along with four other classmates, we worked hard in the course while hoping to do well in the competition.

Three months later, Google informed us that we were the regional winners for the Americas! Our team received an all-expenses paid trip to the Googleplex in San Francisco. This overwhelming experience left me speechless and grateful. Now, I’m pursuing a future in the booming industry of digital marketing.

Thank you to my family, Fanshawe and Liz Gray for creating and fostering dreams, and for providing the tools and means to fulfill them. The amazing part of all this: It’s only the beginning.
